UNIST Launches Global Insights Day with European Embassy Partners
The inaugural Global Insights Day brought together students, researchers, and faculty for discussions on science, education, and international engagement.
On May 27, students, researchers, and faculty gathered at UNIST for the inaugural Global Insights Day , a new program bringing international perspectives on science, technology, and higher education directly to campus.
Held at the Market Hall of the Industry–University Cooperation Building, the event welcomed approximately 50 participants and representatives from the Embassies of Denmark, Belgium, and Finland in Korea. Through a series of talks and discussions, attendees explored national research priorities, higher education systems, and approaches to scientific development across Europe.
The program featured keynote speeches by Science and Innovation Attaché Inie Nør Madsen at the Embassy of Denmark in Korea, Investment and Trade Counselor Wouter Vanhees at the Embassy of Belgium in Korea, and Deputy Head of Mission and Minister Counselor Antti Niemelä at the Embassy of Finland in Korea. Drawing on their experiences in science diplomacy and international affairs, the speakers shared perspectives on research ecosystems, talent development, and science policy in their respective countries.
A question-and-answer session followed, with participants discussing research opportunities abroad, student and researcher mobility, entrepreneurship, and academic exchange. Conversations continued during a networking session, where students and researchers met directly with embassy representatives.
YunJu Roh of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering said the event offered valuable insight into research and education beyond Korea. “One message that stayed with me was the idea that a society's greatest strength comes from its people,” Roh said.
Young-Bin Park, Dean of Public Relations and International Affairs, said the event provided an opportunity for the UNIST community to engage directly with international perspectives on science and higher education. He further added, “Global Insights Day allows our students and researchers to learn from different national approaches to science, technology, and education. We hope these conversations will broaden perspectives and encourage future international exchange.”
UNIST plans to continue the Global Insights Day series as a platform for dialogue with international partners and for exploring new avenues of cooperation in research and education.
