UNIST Recognized for Excellence in Intellectual Property Management

UNIST has been recognized for its approach to intellectual property management, including the systematic evaluation of its patent portfolio and its use in technology transfer and commercialization.

The university received a commendation in the patent portfolio assessment category of Korea's 2026 intellectual property management awards. The recognition reflects UNIST's performance in managing domestic and international patents, assessing their competitive and commercial potential, and connecting research-derived intellectual property with industry.

Organized by the Ministry of Intellectual Property (MOIP) and the Korea Intellectual Property Strategy Agency (KISTA), the program evaluates universities and public research institutions on their intellectual property creation and utilization over the previous three years. Twelve institutions were selected this year. The commendation was presented in Seoul during the  2026 Pan-Governmental Public Technology Transfer and Commercialization Roadshow on September 14, 2026.

At UNIST, patent portfolio assessments are used to identify technologies with strong competitive and commercial potential and inform decisions on patent management, technology transfer, and commercialization. The university was recognized for applying this process consistently across its intellectual property portfolio.

“This recognition reflects our continued efforts to secure strong research outcomes as competitive intellectual property and connect them with technology transfer and commercialization,” said UNIST President Chong Rae Park. “We will continue to strengthen the quality of our patent portfolio and refine how we manage and use intellectual property to translate research into industrial value.”
