As August draws to a close, this edition of Photo Essay looks back at the season through open landscapes, sunlit buildings, and quieter corners along the way.》

At the height of summer, green seems to stretch in every direction—from the mountains beyond UNIST to the trees and lawns across campus. Under long hours of daylight, the landscape is lush from one end of campus to the other.

Around Gamak Pond, sunlight finds its way through the trees, falling across the lawn and breaking into small glints on the pond. Long patches of shade stretch beneath the trees, while the UNIST Library beyond the water sits in softer afternoon light. As the sun shifts, so does the scene—between brightness and shade, stillness and shimmer.

Beneath the Main Administration Building, a shaded wooden deck opens onto a plaza washed in the afternoon sun. The brightness beyond feels even stronger from beneath the deck, with the dark wooden passage framing the sunlit plaza just a few steps away.

Out in the open, summer light falls across the engineering buildings. Against a clear blue sky, sunlight catches their glass windows, reflecting the green of the surrounding trees. Framed by foliage and afternoon light, the buildings take on the colors of summer. 

Along a shaded path, a shallow stream runs between stone banks and summer greenery, with a row of stepping stones crossing the water. The gentle sound of running water carries through the trees, while leaves stir in the summer breeze. Tucked between the surrounding buildings, the stream brings a quieter rhythm to this part of campus. 

From there, the view opens onto a broad lawn stretching toward the engineering buildings. Trees line its edges beneath a wide summer sky, while afternoon light falls across the grass. Even late in the season, the landscape remains intensely green.

By late summer, the campus still holds the colors of the season. Around Gamak Pond, trees remain full and green, while the UNIST sculpture and engineering buildings catch the afternoon sun. Yet the days are beginning to shorten, and September is approaching. Before the landscape begins to change again, these photographs offer a brief record of summer at UNIST.
